How does age affect excess?

For learner drivers:

For learner drivers, any excess related to a claim when the vehicle was driven by a learner driver is based on the excess of the supervising driver. This means there is no additional excess for age if you are supervised by a fully licensed driver 25 or older.

For policies in NSW, QLD, TAS and the ACT first purchased before 21 April 2024 and not yet renewed, or last renewed before 1 July 2024:

An additional excess (known as an age excess) applies if a driver is under 25 years of age. This age excess is lower if the driver under 25 is listed on your policy.

For all other policies:

  • For any driver listed on your policy, we take their age into account when calculating their excess.
  • If a driver under 25 isn’t listed on your policy, you will pay an additional excess called an undisclosed driver age excess.
