If you injure someone in an accident, your CTP Insurance covers the cost of their medical treatment, and any lost income if they’re unable to work.
You’re covered for injuries to your passengers, as well as pedestrians, and the drivers and passengers of other vehicles. CTP also covers accidents caused by other people driving your car.
Importantly, your CTP insurance doesn’t cover your injuries. But you can make a claim on the other driver’s CTP Insurance, if they’re considered partly or completely ‘at fault’.
You can find out more from the CTP Regulator.
Here’s a summary of what’s covered.
Other's people medical expenses
We cover the medical expenses of other people’s injuries from an accident you cause (including your passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers and their passengers.)
Anyone who drives your car
Your CTP Insurance covers you no matter who is driving your car.
Other people's lost income
We cover any lost income if they need to take time off work to recover.
Ridesharing
You’re covered if you drive for a ridesharing service, like Uber.
Your medical expenses
To cover your medical expenses, you need to make a claim on the other driver’s CTP Insurance. (See how to make a CTP Insurance claim.)
Vehicles and property
Damage to your vehicle, other people’s vehicles and property is covered by our other car insurance1.

Note that anyone who's injured in an accident can make a claim. That includes drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, passengers or pedestrians. However, if you as a driver are deemed to be solely ‘at fault’ in an accident, your injuries are not covered.
CTP Insurance and Comprehensive Car Insurance are different.
You need to have CTP Insurance in South Australia to register your vehicle and use it on the road.
Comprehensive Car Insurance is optional and covers certain things that your CTP Insurance doesn’t. It covers your car for accidental damage, collision or crash, severe weather, theft, vandalism or malicious acts. Our Comprehensive Car Insurance also covers the extras on your car like alloy wheels, sunroofs and custom sound systems.
For full details including limits, conditions and exclusions, read the policy documents.
CTP Insurance is always linked to your vehicle. So if you sell it, your vehicle’s CTP Insurance will be transferred to the new owner.
Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Green Slip is mandatory for NSW motorists. You need CTP before you can register your vehicle.
MAI Insurance pays for medical treatment for anyone who needs it after they’re injured in a road accident. You need MAI Insurance before you can register your vehicle.
