Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance

All the protection of Comprehensive Car insurance, plus $0 glass excess and a hire car after any incident

What is Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance?

Comprehensive Plus is the highest level of cover we offer. Like the name suggests, it covers a wide range of insured events like car damage caused by fire, theft, weather and collisions. But unlike our Comprehensive Basics and Comprehensive policies, this level of cover automatically includes extras like a hire car after an accident and $0 excess on repairs to glass damage.

It also provides higher value limits for some areas of cover. For example, it covers up to $250 for a taxi fare (from the scene of an accident or authorised vehicle repairer) which is a higher limit than in our Comprehensive Insurance policy.

This is just a summary of the differences between NRMA car insurance levels of cover. Check our Product Disclosure Statement for specific terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions for each level of cover.

What does NRMA Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance cover?

With an NRMA Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance policy, you'll be covered for a range of events. Here’s a summary of what’s included.

  • Towing
We pay for towing to a repairer or safe place if your car can’t be driven after an event we cover (like an accident).

  • New replacement car
If your new car’s written off in its first three years, we try to replace it with a similar new car5.

Add an option to pick any licensed repairer to fix your car, including NRMA Partner Repairers.

Make sure to read our policy booklets

They’ll give you details on limits, conditions, exclusions and more

Important note for customers in NSW, QLD, TAS & ACT. If you purchased your policy before 21 April 2024 and you either haven't renewed it yet or you last renewed it before 1 July 2024, your cover will be different to the cover described above. Read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) relevant to your policy on our policy booklets page, or call us on 132 132 for more information.

What’s the difference between agreed and market value?

Agreed value means you choose the amount to insure your car for (from a range we give you). This is automatic on our Comprehensive Plus policy, and optional on our standard Comprehensive policy.

Market value means we’ll work out how much your car is worth at the time you make a claim. To do that, we use things like local market prices, your car’s age, its condition, and any modifications or accessories. This is the only option for our Comprehensive Basics policy.

Looking for a different level of cover?

Take a look at our other Comprehensive Car Insurance policies.

Our entry-level comprehensive policy. Your car will be covered for collision damage, accidental damage to other people’s property, as well as vandalism, theft, fire and severe weather. But with this level of cover, you can’t add any extras.

All the inclusions of our Comprehensive Basics policy, but with the option to add on extras like $0 excess for glass damage, your choice of repairer and a hire vehicle after an incident.

Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance FAQs

If a learner driver uses my car, do I need to list them on my policy?

You don’t need to list them on your policy unless they’re the registered owner of the car. We cover anyone who drives your car, even if they’re not listed.

Who repairs my car if it’s damaged?

If your car’s damaged and we decide it can be repaired, you can have it fixed by a Partner Repairer.

There are more than 400 Partner Repairers across Australia and we’ll help find one that's convenient for you. We’ll manage the repair process with them so you don’t have to worry.

If you've added the Any repairer option, when your car’s damaged and we decide it can be repaired, you can choose any licensed repairer to fix it (including a Partner Repairer). If you choose someone other than a Partner Repairer, you might need to manage the repair process yourself.

Do I get a hire car?

With Comprehensive Plus Insurance we pay for a hire car if your car can’t be driven after any covered event.

If you’re in an accident caused by another driver, you need to be able to give us their name and address and we need to agree it’s their fault. We’ll pay for a hire car until your car’s repaired or we pay your claim as a ‘total loss’.

If your car’s stolen, we’ll pay up to $100 a day for a hire car. We’ll pay until your car’s found and repaired, or until we pay your claim as a ‘total loss’ (whichever’s first).

If your car can’t be driven after any other event we cover, we’ll pay up to $100 a day for a hire car, until your vehicle’s repaired, or until we pay your claim as a ‘total loss’ (whichever’s first).

I'm going overseas, how do I get an International Driving Permit?

Apply online with NRMA* and your International Driving Permit can be sent to you within five business days.

If you’re going overseas in less than five days, you can apply in person at a participating branch.

Does NRMA Insurance cover electric (EV), hybrid and plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) vehicles?

Yes – as long as they meet our standard acceptance criteria. We generally cover standard-spec EV, hybrid and PHEV vehicles.

What’s the difference between Comprehensive and Comprehensive Plus?

Comprehensive Plus has the following inclusions:

  • A hire car if your car can’t be driven after any incident we cover, even if you cause an accident
  • No excess to pay for glass damage repairs
  • Taxi fares (up to $250) to get you home if your car can’t be driven after an accident we cover.

There are also some differences in the level of costs you’ll be covered for. For example, with Comprehensive Plus we’ll pay up to $100 per day for a hire car after an accident until your car is repaired or your claim is settled, whereas under Comprehensive cover we’ll pay up to $75 per day.

This is just a summary of the differences between NRMA Car Insurance levels of cover. Check our Product Disclosure Statement for specific terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions for each level of cover.
