Changes to our loyalty discount

Our loyalty discount is being discontinued, and will no longer apply to policies with a renewal effective date on or after 1 July 2024, or new policies with a commencement date on or after 21 April 2024.

The loyalty discount has never applied to any policies purchased in SA, WA or the NT.

Instead, you may be eligible for our new customer discounts.

We value our relationship with you. That’s why our loyalty discount is based on the number of consecutive years you’ve been a customer, and the number of eligible policies you have with us.

Which policies are eligible?

Eligible to count towards and receive a discount

  • All car and motorcycle policies (except CTP Green Slip)
  • Veteran, Vintage and Classic Car
  • Home Buildings, Home Contents and combined Home Buildings and Contents2
  • Landlord3
  • Caravan (On-site & Touring)
  • Boat
  • Trailer

Counts towards a discount only

  • CTP Green Slip
  • Life Insurance4
  • Income Protection4
  • Membership with NRMA*5
  • Policies for insured property in SA, WA or the NT aren’t eligible for the Loyalty Discount, and they don’t count towards your Loyalty Discount.

Is my No Claim Bonus linked to my new Loyalty Discount?

The No Claim Bonus is separate from the new Loyalty Discount. If you're eligible for a No Claim Bonus this will also be applied to your policy.

When do I get my Loyalty Discount on the policies I already have?

When you get a new eligible policy, your Loyalty Discount1 may increase for the policies you already have. For your existing eligible policies any change to your Loyalty Discount generally applies from the next renewal after you qualify.

If you become eligible for an updated Loyalty Discount around the time your existing policies are due for renewal, the updated Loyalty Discount may not be applied to those renewing policies (the updated discount will be applied on the subsequent renewal).

You’ll get the Loyalty Discount immediately on your new eligible policies1.

If we’ve already sent you a renewal notice, or your Loyalty Discount has changed and isn’t correct on your renewal notice, call us on 132 132 before you renew.

Is my Loyalty Discount affected by any claims I make?

Any claims you make will not affect your Loyalty Discount level.

My policy is in joint names. How is the Loyalty Discount calculated?

Each named policy holder has an individual Loyalty Discount. We identify which owner has been with us the longest and has the most policies, then apply the highest Loyalty Discount to the joint policy. The Loyalty Discount is recalculated at each renewal.

What happens to the policies I have in a business name?

To receive a Loyalty Discount your eligible policies must be in the same name. For example, John has four policies: a home policy and boat policy in his name (John Smith), and two car policies in his business name (John’s Plumbing). He gets a Loyalty Discount based on two policies (home and boat) and John’s Plumbing will get a separate Loyalty Discount based on the two car policies.

Things you should know

  1. Any applicable discounts may be subject to minimum premiums. Discounts only apply until a minimum premium is reached. When we determine your premium on renewal, we may also limit any increases or decreases in your premium by considering factors such as your previous year’s premium amount. You may not save more with more eligible policies and by staying with us longer if a minimum premium is reached, or we have limited increases or decreases in your premium.

  2. A combined Home Buildings and Contents policy counts as two policies.

  3. A combined Landlord Buildings and Contents policy counts as two policies.

  4. Products are issued by TAL Life Limited ABN 70 050 109 450 AFSL 237848 (TAL Life) and, for Involuntary Unemployment Cover, St Andrew’s Insurance (Australia) Pty Ltd ABN 89 075 044 656 AFSL 239649 (the insurers). TAL Direct has been authorised under an arrangement with the insurers to enter into, vary or cancel insurance cover on behalf of the insurers as if it were the insurers. Applies to policies issued on or before 1 April 2021 and any subsequent renewal of those policies, provided no changes are made.

  5. Membership with NRMA* (except NRMA* Business Membership) counts towards your Policy Count and, for a limited time, Years of Relationship for the NRMA Insurance Loyalty Discount but it doesn’t receive the NRMA Insurance Loyalty Discount.
