Boat insurance FAQs

Are fixtures and fittings covered?

We cover any permanent fixtures and fittings that are permanently attached to your boat.

For more information, please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

What if I change where my boat is kept?

If you change the address where you usually keep your boat or if you moor your boat during your policy period, please call us on 132 132.

What's lay up cover?

With lay up cover, you can reduce your premium and the cover we provide for a time period we agree while you're not using your boat.

We still cover your boat in the lay up period you nominate. Although, you can't use your boat in that time and you must keep it on a trailer or dry stored at the address shown on your policy.

We also cover your boat in the lay up period if you're taking your boat for a scheduled service or to be repaired by a marine mechanic or repairer.

If you want to use your boat during the lay up period, we'll only cover it if:

  • You tell us you're going to use it
  • We agree to cover you for that use, and
  • You pay us any additional premium that applies.

What excesses apply?

The types of excesses that may apply to claims are:

  • Boat
  • Driver
  • Racing
  • Undisclosed driver age
  • Unsecured trailer theft excess

For more information about excesses, read our Premium, Excess and Discounts Guide (PED).

Things you should know

  1. Some product exclusions apply. Any applicable discounts may be subject to minimum premiums. Discounts only apply until a minimum premium is reached. When we determine your premium on renewal, we may also limit any increases or decreases in your premium by considering factors such as your previous year's premium amount. Find out more about our online discount.

  2. We may not cover you for some severe weather events during an embargo period (which is usually when we know a severe weather event is about to occur). We’ll tell you if there’s an embargo when you purchase your policy.

  3. Storage costs are only covered from the time you lodge your claim until your boat is either sent to a repairer or we settle your claim.

  4. Not including policies sold or renewed before 27 August 2023 in NSW, QLD, TAS and the ACT.
